Although the presentation was focussed on “Yachties” I think that the key messages applied to all maritime activities including Coastguard.

On one slide in particular highlighted the key demands of sailing which are equally relevant on Coastguard rescue vessels:

·         Move quickly across a wet shifting deck

·         Handle ropes under load

·         Maintain stability/balance in rolling seas

·         Cope with sudden changes in conditions

·         Demand for 360⁰ awareness

It was a great opportunity to socialise and network with the local maritime community.  There were representatives from the following organisations present: Queenscliff Lonsdale Yacht Club, Couta Boat Association, Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club, Queenscliff Coastguard, Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club, Queenscliff local community.
