Commodore's Report

The Club made a great start to the year with a huge Discover Sailing day which saw member volunteers working hard to keep young and old out on the water in Sparrows and kayaks followed by a BBQ lunch. This was followed by the Commodore's Cup and a good crowd gathering post race to enjoy the Commodore's Cocktail Party. We also presented the trophies to our two Lady skippers who shared the award in 2022, congratulations Sarah and Cath! On the day the Club was also presented a model of a Couta boat hand built by John Stuart.

This past weekend saw joint races wtih the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club QLYC & Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club for both the Cec Anderson 4 Race & Div. 2 Couta Boat Championships followed by a fabulous dinner at 360Q. Many of our members participated along with about 20 Couta boats. For more photos see the gallery on the website.

Saturday Sailing and paddling by a self managed members group has continued throughout Summer. Watch out on the calendar for the paddling clinics with Ross now nearly back in full paddling mode this is always an event that fills quickly. Members who enrolled for the postponed Spring clinic will be contacted first. Stay tuned for an email.

The Swan Bay Cup is in progress and the last sailing clinic will be held on Friday 10th March with a race and final race the 24th of March to decide the cup.

Planning for the 75th Anniversary Event is well underway. We are producing a history of the club and will premiere a podcast with senior members of the Club for the 5th March celebrations of 75 years at our present location.

I encourage you to look on the website for upcoming events. The sailing committee has planned Port Phillip and Swan Bay sailing, paddling, RC sailing and social events for the coming season and they are on the website.

As we head into Autumn, I look forward to welcoming to the Club many of our 61 new members who've joined since the beginning of summer, for some Family Friendly Fun. Now with a 373 strong membership we look forward to a great year of celebrations of milestones: our 75th year at the current location, 110th year on Swan Bay and over 140 years of Family Friendly Fun.
